Employment Empowerment

Project One Way qualifies youth to avoid, and if necessary navigate through traditional employee-employer relationship challenges, by respectfully advocating for themselves. We fulfill this program by offering valuable lessons on:

Ensuring that where you work, is working for you:

We aim to ensure that students understand what types of jobs, job fields, and work environments will be most conducive for their success. We believe that taking steps to assist students in coming to these understandings is beneficial not only for the employee, but for the employer.

Negotiating Compensation and Benefits

This is an area where most youth are often underexposed, and under-educated. Due to the American standard of individual financial worth and value, we find that many youth result to settling for inadequate compensation on the premise of improvement from other non-complementary opportunities. Our goal is to allow youth the opportunity to self-actualize their financial worth PRIOR to entering the workforce. This strategy by no means will contribute to an increased sense of entitlement among up-and-coming generations of youth, but rather prompt them to realize both what they have to offer, and what they do not have to offer to an employer.

Respectful Resignation Practices

Far too often, Americans submit themselves to the culturally toxic tradition of forcibly remaining in positions that they are no longer a good fit for, out of convenience. This practice not only affects the employee negatively, but is unfair to the employer as this reality often leads to decreased job performance while compensation remains the same. With that being said, Project OneWay aims to empower young people to always conduct themselves in a respectable manner despite circumstance or situation, practice healthy forms of communication and expression, and foster positive and lasting work relationships.

The Bridge Initiative

While it is Project OneWay’s primary focus through the Employment Empowerment Program to prepare the next generation for the workplace, the Bridge Initiative under the program is purposed to impact the situation in a wholistic sense. Through this initiative, Project OneWay partners with members of executive level management teams ranging from local municipalities, to corporate offices throughout the region to facilitate seminars that address long standing environmental health inhibitors. This may be done through workshops, panels and forums of discussion, or any other avenue deemed appropriate by the business owner.
